I don’t know about you, but before I moved into my first apartment from my parents house, I knew almost nothing about cleaning and cleaning supplies.
Of course I know how to wash the dishes, vacuum or mop my floor, but that’s it lol
I knew almost nothing about cleaning supplies and what you actually need for cleaning a full apartment.

What basic cleaning supplies should I have?
I do recommend to keep reading this post to know exactly what cleaning products you need for each room, but here are the basic cleaning supplies you need to have:
- Broom & dust pan
- Mop
- Vacuum

- Toilet bowl cleaner
General Cleaning Supplies List
I know it’s self-explanatory why you need everything in this post, but I will share my thoughts and tips on each product 🙂
So, let’s start off with a broom & dustpan. You can quickly sweep up dirt, dust, your pet’s hair, or any unpleasant junk you don’t want on your floor 😉
I can’t imagine life without a vacuum, especially as a dog mom.
But even if you don’t have a pet, having a cordless vacuum like the Dyson vacuums or the iRobot vacuums is a GAME CHANGER.
I have this Dyson vacuum cleaner, and I highly recommend it. I vacuum my place every 2 days (because of my dog’s hair), and I highly recommend it.
Sadly your floor won’t clean itself, so you gotta get a mop to clean your floor!
This mop cleaning system comes with everything you need to easily mop your floor.
Make sure dust won’t pile up anywhere by using a duster!
I like to keep my space fresh and clean by dusting every once in a while.
Though I do recommend getting an expandable duster than a regular one, because it is so much easier to clean high shelves/over your fridge/anywhere you can’t reach.
I love using microfiber cloths for cleaning surfaces/my kitchen counters/etc.
I got this black microfiber cloth set because I thought it’s much nicer than the super colorful ones lol
But this pack also comes in many other colors too.
Next on this cleaning supplies list is this reusable cleaning gloves pack! I use these to wash the dishes, when cleaning around, etc.
It’s just nicer to use when cleaning instead of using your bare hands (and it’s also good for protecting your gel nails).
I use this all-purpose cleaner spray for EVERYTHING. I love these Method all-purpose cleaners, and I actually clean like everything with them haha
Another cleaning supply I can’t pass on is disinfecting wipes! I love these Clorox disinfecting wipes. They are bleach free, and come in a set of 3 boxes with 75 wipes.
Magic Sponge Erasers are a GAME CHANGER.
When I moved into my first apartment, the people who lived here before me didn’t leave the walls as clean as I expected them to, and this Magic Sponge Eraser completely erased EVERYTHING!
Also, for everyday life, I like to use them to clean the walls/light switches/doors/etc.
Keep those windows clean with the Windex glass cleaner!
I also have a glass dining table, so I use this to clean the glass and it just cleans everything so easily and perfectly.
As a dog mom myself, I know how dogs can shed. Especially between seasons, my dog sheds A LOT.
But, I love her the way she is. So I got this pet hair remover, which makes removing pet hair from the couch/car seats/clothes so much easier.
For my couch I also vacuum the couch, but that’s not only because of her hair.
Kitchen Cleaning Supplies List:
And along with the dish soap, don’t forget dish sponges 😉 I like this dish sponges pack.
It comes with 24 sponges, and the price is great. I love using them when washing the dishes and even cleaning the kitchen sometimes.
I’ve been using this Finish Dishwasher Detergent for YEARS. And I love it.
It leaves your dishes shiny and clean!
If you have a metal sink, you should definitely test out this Hope’s Perfect Sink Cleaner from Amazon.
I always use the Weiman Stainless Steel Cleaner to clean my fridge, stove, stove top, and even my microwave.
I am an eco friendly girlie, but it’s still hard for me to give up on paper towels.
Anyways, I always use this Amazon Basics Paper Towels Pack that comes with 12 paper towel rolls. It’s super affordable and great to have.
Bathroom Cleaning Supplies List:
Keep your toilet bowl clean with this automatic toilet bowl cleaner or this power toilet bowl cleaner.
I have both at home, though I am currently using the automatic toilet bowl cleaner. It’s much easier and you don’t need to think about cleaning your toilet which is always a plus ;))
The Pink Stuff Bathroom Foam Cleaner is perfect for deep cleaning your bathroom.
I like to clean with it my shower tiles, sinks, my bathtub, and basically anything you can find in a bathroom.
A good bleach cleaner spray is always good to have. I like the Clorox Clean-Up Cleaner + Beach spray.
It’s an affordable set that comes with 3 cleaning supplies and will definitely last you long enough.
Once you move into your first apartment, you are going to understand that living on your own also means buying things you don’t want to pay for – like this toilet plunger & bowl brush combo 😉
An Electric Spin Scrubber isn’t a must-have, but it will definitely make a huge difference in your cleaning routine, and will make things much easier and faster for you.
It has an adjustable extension handle, and it makes the perfect cordless shower cleaner brush for your bathroom.
It really deep cleans your shower/bathtub, and by using it you won’t need to work hard while cleaning.
Laundry Cleaning Supplies List:
Moving on to laundry essentials in this cleaning supplies list.
Let’s start off with a laundry detergent 🙂
I love this Downy laundry detergent. It has the best smell in my opinion, and I love using it.
I love my clothes as soft as possible after laundry, so I love using this Downy laundry fabric softener. It also has an amazing smell, and it definitely does the job 🙂
I always use dryer sheets when I am using my dryer. Just to make sure my clothes are still soft after the dryer.
I am currently using these Bounce dryer sheets, and I am very happy with them.
Laundry stain removers are a must in my opinion. I always use this Tide Laundry Stain Remover when I need it, and it is perfect for easily removing stains in the laundry.
In addition to the laundry stain removers, the Tide To Go pens are a MUST in my opinion.
It’s an instant spot remover for clothes, and it does the perfect job for any accident!
It literarily makes stains disappear so fast it’s like they were never there!
Let me complain about white laundry and colored laundry. It’s such a hassle to separate everything, and I always worry that I will accidentally mix.
So a while ago I discovered this Laundry Color Keeper, which is the perfect solution to mix your white and colorful laundry.
It makes sure that every colored shirt stays as it was, and that every white clothing piece won’t be pink or yellow at the end of the laundry session 😉
I’m OBSESSED with this collapsible laundry basket!
While living in an apartment, you don’t always have space for everything. So it’s nice to have a collapsible laundry basket that you can hide when you are not using.
After I finish using it, I just put it by the laundry machine, and it doesn’t take space at all.
Moving on to a collapsible clothes drying rack. If you don’t have a dryer, or even if you do but you prefer using a drying rack, you can get this collapsible clothes drying rack.
I saw this on TikTok and I think this is a perfect idea for anyone living in an apartment. Since it’s collapsible, you can store it anywhere when you are not using it, and it won’t take up space.
