IMPORTANT FIRST APARTMENT MOVING HACKS
Start Collecting Boxes Early
This hack is an important one. Start collecting boxes as early as possible to make sure you have enough boxes for your move and that you won’t need to buy any boxes.
Get Free Boxes From Uhaul.
If you never heard of Uhaul, you should definitely know them! Uhaul is a great program that allows customers to recycle their moving boxes and let other customers use them.
This means that Uhaul has free boxes that you can use! It’s a great money saver, and is also an amazing way to help the environment!
Moving boxes are usually very expensive, that’s why it’s a great hack to save money!
Have an “Open First” First Day Box
Usually, most people pack everything by categories, and forget to leave out some important everyday essentials and items!
That’s why it’s super important to have a “first-day” box with all of the everyday essentials you’ll need for your first day in the new place.
In the box you should pack:
- Toilet paper
- Shampoo + Conditioner + Towels
- Toothbrush + toothpaste
- Scissors
- Pajamas
- Clothes for the next day
Keep a Moving Checklist
If you want to make your moving process easier, it is VERY important to work with a packing checklist to help you out and keep you organized!
I am offering a FREE moving checklists bundle that includes apartment essentials packing list, apartment cleaning supplies list, and an apartment grocery list for your first week!

Use Trash Bags to Pack Hanging Clothes
This moving hack is honestly gold. It is a genius hack that “saved my life” when I moved!
By using this hack, you can be sure that your clothes won’t get dirty in the moving process, it allows you to stick your clothes right into your new closet, and the packing process will be much easier because you don’t need to take the clothes off the hangers and fold them into the boxes.
All you need to do is to rubberband about 10-15 hangers together while the clothes are on the hanger. Then, take the trash bag and make a hole in the middle of the bottom.
Stick your hand through the whole and put it over the hanger. Afterward, tie the trashcan at the bottom to make sure that all clothes are tucked.
Label EVERYTHING
You don’t want to arrive at your new place and find out that you have no idea what box belongs where and not finding important things you are looking for in the boxes.
That’s why you can forget to label EVERYTHING. Label all boxes using moving boxes labels to make sure you are super organized.
Color Code Boxes By Room
Another great moving hack to keep yourself organized and aware of where is everything and where does it belong, is by color-coding the boxes by room.
This means, that by sticking colorful stickers to the boxes by rooms, you will know exactly what boxes belong where.
For example, put a pink sticker on the bedroom boxes, a green sticker on the kitchen boxes, a yellow sticker for the closet, etc.
Make Use of Your Suitcases
Instead of packing your suitcases or just taking them with you, use them as moving “boxes” as well!
You can put inside them your “first-day” essentials or anything you want that will fit inside the suitcases.
Use Blankets And Towels to Protect Breakables
This is definitely a must-know moving hack. Make sure your breakables are protected by covering them with blankets, towels, and even scarfs!
You can use these hacks for breakable kitchen essentials, perfumes, and any other items.
Stock Up on Moving Supplies
Stock Up on Moving Supplies in advance and don’t wait till the last minute to run around and look for supplies!
These are my must-have moving supplies:

Declutter Before Packing
Instead of decluttering your stuff after you move and unpack in the new place, it’s a smarter move to declutter your belongings before packing. This way you will pack everything you’ll actually need and use in your new place.
Pre-clean Your New Place Before Moving in
Try deep cleaning your new place before move-in day. If you pre-clean your place before moving, you won’t need to deep clean your place on your moving day, and since there won’t be any furniture/boxes before you move, it will be the easiest to clean the place!
Tape Mirrors so They Won’t Break
A great moving hack for making sure that the mirrors won’t break during the move is to place tape over the glass in an “X” to prevent the mirror from shattering during the move.
Why tape the mirrors? This way the tape will absorb any shocks that the mirrors can get and will protect the mirror from breaking.
Pack Socks Into Your Boots and Shoes
I love this moving hack because it’s so easy to do and will save you so much space!
Instead of packing your cocks, and packing your shoes, you can pack the socks inside your boots/sneakers/shoes and save space inside the boxes!
Pack Cleaning Supplies in Its Own Box
Since you will probably clean things and places in your home after you start unpacking, a smart move is to pack all of your cleaning supplies in one box that you can easily find and use.
Tape Screws And Bolts on The Back of The Furniture Piece
This is one of the smartest hacks you should definitely do! All you need to do is to put the furniture piece’s screws in a plastic bag and tape it to the back of the furniture piece!
And that’s it for today! These were my best apartment moving hacks that I think you should know before moving into your new place!
