How can I make my house smell nice all the time?

Beyond the tips in this post, if you want to make your house or apartment smell nice all the time, here are a few tips you should follow:

  • Open Windows – Whenever you can, make sure there’s at least one window open to allow some fresh air to come inside and flush out any unpleasant scents.
  • Use Scented Trash Bags – one of my best tips to keeping your home smelling good, is tackling your trash area by using scented trash bags, that will reduce the unpleasant smell from your trash can.
  • Take Out The Trash Often – With what I just said kept in mind, always take out your trash and don’t leave it at home for too long.
  • Light Candles/Use a Diffuser Daily – Lighting candles or having an electric diffuser turned on consistently will definitely help your home smell amazing all the time!

How To Make Home Smell Good

1. Open Windows

The first thing I always do to refresh my apartment and make sure it smells good, is to keep at least one or two windows open.

This way, the space feels fresh, and any unpleasant scents just flush out.

2. Take Care of Your Trash Cans

By taking care of your trash cans, I mean to first of all – use scented trash bags in your trash cans.

It makes a difference, but it comes hand in hand with taking out the trash often.

Make sure your trash doesn’t sit in the trash can for too long, because it will definitely stink 🙂

3. Clean Your Place Regularly

This is the first tip you should follow – clean your home regularly!

If your place isn’t cleaned, it will be hard to maintain a good smelling space.

Vacuum, dust, mop, and wipe down surfaces regularly to insure bad scents won’t add up.

4. Use an Electric Oil Diffuser For Larger Spaces

An electric oil diffuser for larger spaces (for example your living room or your whole living space) can definitely make a difference, and can also work for hours.

I love this electric essentials oil diffuser from Amazon. It’s perfect for larger spaces, and I love using this for my living space (my kitchen and living room are connected and it makes an amazing scent for both spaces).

And as for the essential oils, I LOVE this amazing smelling essential oils pack from Amazon.

5. Light Candles Regularly

If there’s something I am 100% obsessed with and can’t live without, it’s candles.

I don’t leave candles alone, even if I’m in a different room, but whenever I’m in my living room, my home office, or even my bedroom, I always have a candle lit next to me!

I am the biggest fan of Bath&BodyWorks candles. They are so good! Click here for my favorite scents 🙂

I love to stock up on them during sales, so that’s a wonderful hack to follow as well for budget friendly finds.

I also love Target’s candles. They are much cheaper and also smell amazing.

You can check out my favorite Target candles here!

6. Fabric Softner Stovetop Hack

I don’t know if I’m the only one who does it, and I am assuming I’m not, but it’s one of my favorite tips on how to make a home smell good – whenever I want to give a boost to my apartment’s scent, I like to boil hot water with some fabric softener on my stovetop.

It fills the apartment with an amazing laundry scent. So if you like the scent of your laundry, you should definitely consider trying this!

Of course, don’t forget it for too long on your stovetop, and follow all the safety percussions recommended when turning on your stovetop.

7. Plug in a Pura Smart Diffuser

Beyond lighting candles, I always like to plug in my Pura Smart diffuser. I always make sure it’s filled up, and use it when we are home.

I like to use the more natural-fresh scents that can blend with any candles I might be lighting in a room.

8. Use Room Sprays Before Guests Arrive

Room sprays are amazing but spraying them won’t leave your home smelling good for hours and hours on a regular basis.

I love using room sprays around the apartment before guests arrive. And in general, I like to spray my bedroom before I go to sleep, so I can fall asleep with an amazing smell in my bedroom!

9. Keep Your Bathroom Smelling Good

The number one tip I can give you to making sure your bathroom smells good all the time, is to NOT leave wet/damp towels in your bathroom.

Another trick I read somewhere a while ago is to spray a perfume you don’t use/a room spray inside the toilet roll.

Then, every time you or a guest spin the toilet roll an amazing scent will come out of it! (which is always nice :))

And that’s it for today! I hope you found the best tips to make your home smell good 🙂
